Gaz Métro is Quebec’s principal distributor of natural gas with a network of 10,000 km of pipelines serving 300 municipalities. For Gaz Métro, the energy mix of the future will include a greater diversity of energy sources. This is why the company places particular importance on energy innovation and on the development of renewable energy projects such as those linked to biomethane or renewable natural gas (RNG).
Whether we consider the numerous RNG projects in Quebec or the production of biogas from cow manure developed by its Vermont subsidiary, Green Mountain Power, Gaz Métro commits itself to developing this growing energy supply. Faced with growing interest in renewable natural gas, Gaz Métro has had numerous discussions with the Quebec government to obtain authorization to distribute natural gas in its network in the coming years.
As the RNG projects develop, we could soon see appear a Quebec network of locally produced renewable natural gas. Gaz Métro is eager to share the expertise it has developed with the members of the Canadian Biogas Association to continue to promote and grow RNG.
‘Transforming organic materials into energy is a natural solution in the fight against climate change. The start of our collaboration with the Canadian Biogas Association is a time to look forward to the bright future of renewable natural gas’, says Donald Beverly, Senior Advisor, Business Development and Renewable Energy for Gaz Métro and Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for the Canadian Biogas Association.
