2017 Value of Biogas East Conference & RNG Workshop

2017 Value of Biogas East Conference & RNG Workshop

The 2017 Value of Biogas events in Toronto was our biggest event yet! Delegates and exhibitors benefited from two days of networking at Canada’s biggest biogas event connecting representatives across the sector.

On March 23rd, the RNG Workshop for Municipalities educated municipal and public sector staff on the financial viability of RNG projects based on scenarios and policies in development, as well as gas standards, guidelines, costs and procedures for grid connection. A policy landscape, funding opportunities and case studies were also included in the half-day workshop.

The RNG Workshop was followed by the Canadian Biogas Association AGM, and election of our new Board of Directors. The day concluded with a networking dinner and keynote address by Patrick Serfass, Executive Director of the American Biogas Council, with insightful updates on biogas developments in the United States.

On March 24th, the 2017 Value of Biogas East conference provided an engaging and relevant program. The morning featured a national panel, policy snapshot and technology showcase and two keynote addresses. Erin Flanagan from the Pembina Institute provided insights on the Pan-Canadian Framework and the shift to low carbon fuels, and Lynne Patenaude of Environment and Climate Change Canada discussed how biogas fits in with the plans of the federal government. The afternoon included two concurrent streams focused on municipal and agricultural biogas opportunities. Overall highlights of the day’s events include:

  • Outstanding interest with over 200 attendees!
  • Attendance from across Canada, with several international guests
  • 13 exhibitors filled our networking space
  • Celebrated the year’s achievements within the Canadian Biogas Association
  • Policy drivers, new biogas opportunities, and increasing project efficiency were a major focus

At a time of rapid policy development in areas related to clean alternative fuels like Renewable Natural Gas, climate change and greenhouse gas reduction, waste diversion, carbon credits and protocol adaptation, there remains much optimism for future development in the biogas sector.
