About Dicklands Biogas
Dicklands Biogas, co-digests 42,000 tonnes/year of manure and 40,000 tonnes/year of food waste to produce 205,000 GJ/year of RNG. It also produces over 4,500 tonnes/year of organic fertilizer pellets, and approximately 60,000 tonnes/year of clean water.
Manure is supplied from the farm and neighbouring farms. Food waste is pumped directly into storage tanks if clean, or pre-cleaned if mixed with packaging material. Dicklands Biogas accepts a wide range of food waste, including food processing, supermarket and restaurant waste, spoiled food, green bin and residential waste, fats, oil and grease, animal feed, etc.
Biogas is upgraded to RNG and injected into the local gas pipeline. Digestate is pumped to sloped screens and sieves to remove as much suspended solids as possible. The liquid fraction then goes to a falling film evaporator, where it is heated to produce steam. Once cooled, the steam is cleaned using reverse osmosis, and is then used as drinking water for the cows, process and cleaning water for the plant, and to irrigate surrounding fields.
Fibre from the sloped screens and sieves is mixed with the sludge left-over from the falling film evaporator. This mixture is then dried and pelletized. These pellets are sold as organic fertilizer.
