CBA Comments on the Clean Fuel Standard Regulatory Design Paper

On February 1, The CBA submitted comments to Environment and Climate Change Canada’s Regulatory Design Paper on the Clean Fuel Standard.  CBA’s key messages and recommendations include removing minimum carbon intensity thresholds for projects to allow more RNG participation, including RNG in the list of energy carriers to generate credits, and increasing the limit of credit trading between streams.

Renewable Natural Gas: Study Confirms Economic Potential for Quebec Regions

A new study has shown that in addition to propelling Québec’s energy transition forward, renewable natural gas (RNG) production is a major driver for economic development in all regions of Québec. Those were the conclusions of a study conducted by Aviseo Consulting to evaluate the economic, tax and foundational impacts of RNG production for communities. The impacts identified were based on the results of a study published in November 2018 showing that by 2030, Québec has the technical and economic potential1 to produce enough RNG to replace two thirds of the natural gas currently distributed in Québec with natural gas from renewable sources.

B.C. Budget 2019 Creates Opportunities, Makes Life Better for People

On February 19, British Columbia’s Finance Minister Carole James announced the 2019 provincial budget.  This year’s budget moves forward with CleanBC by investing $902 million to make sure B.C. can meet its climate commitments and to protect the clean air, land and water. This important initiative was developed in consultation with the B.C. Green Party caucus as committed to in the Confidence and Supply Agreement. “British Columbia’s economy is thriving with the strongest GDP and wage growth in Canada. It’s clear that sharing the benefits of growth with all British Columbians results in a stronger economy,” said James. “Together we are doing our part to fight climate change and build a British Columbia where everyone can enjoy a good life and secure future in the community they call home.”

Canadian Agricultural Strategic Priorities Program announced

On February 12 while celebrating Canada’s Agriculture Day with farmers, ranchers, food processors, industry leaders and youth in Ottawa, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Lawrence MacAulay announced the new Canadian Agricultural Strategic Priorities Program (CASPP), an investment of $50.3 million over five years. Funding available through this program will help facilitate the sector’s ability to address emerging issues and capitalize on opportunities. The CASPP focuses on four priority areas: adoption of new technology; environmental sustainability; strategic development and capacity building; and, emerging issues.
