Hydron Energy launches landfill biogas upgrading project in British Columbia

Canadian clean energy company Hydron Energy has launched a renewable natural gas (RNG) platform project at the Bailey Landfill in Chilliwack, British Columbia, aimed at validating its proprietary biogas upgrading system for landfill gas operation. The project centres on Hydron Energy’s INTRUPTor system, which uses a novel metal organic framework (MOF) to remove both nitrogen and carbon dioxide from biogas streams simultaneously at ambient pressure.

New $50 million Future Fuels Challenge will help lower the carbon intensity of transportation fuels

On April 22nd, the Fuel Innovation Fund launched the Future Fuels Challenge, a $50 million funding initiative designed to accelerate the development of technologies that lower the carbon intensity of transportation fuels across Canada. The Challenge is the first annual competitive funding call under the Fund. It will provide regulated fuel suppliers, industry innovators, and technology developers with an opportunity to advance projects that deliver measurable greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions in alignment with Canada’s Clean Fuel Regulations.  Successful applicants may request between $1 million and $10 million per project, with funding covering up to 50 per cent of eligible expenses. Expressions of interest are due June 10, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. MDT.

The action-packed two days included 11 meetings with more than 20 government stakeholders and a Meet & Greet evening reception at the Château Laurier, with nearly 100 attendees, including MPs and Senators interested in learning more about biogas.
