Dominion & Grimm Environment (DGE) brings decades of manufacturing expertise to the Canadian biogas sector. Founded in 2007 as the environmental branch of Dominion & Grimm, a company with roots dating back to 1953 in maple sugaring equipment, DGE started by building specialized tanks for industrial and municipal projects. Today, the Montreal-based company is a trusted partner for biogas facilities, offering tailored solutions through a small, efficient team led by biogas specialists experienced in engineering, construction and operation.
Dominion & Grimm Environment provides a full spectrum of services, from complete turnkey systems to individual components, specializing in tanks as well as heating and mixing systems for substrates. They handle projects from start to finish, including process and commercial simulations, design, construction, operating technical support, training and maintenance services. Their flexibility allows them to take on projects of any size, from small farm-based installations to large municipal or industrial facilities. DGE also serves as the Canadian manufacturing agent for German company LIPP, giving them access to the expertise behind over 35,000 global projects.
In the biogas sector, DGE has steadily built a strong presence by supplying all the essential tanks for biogas plants. Using LIPP’s double-seam tank system, they deliver fast, reliable construction of tanks made from Verinox™ material for added compatibility and durability. Paired with cost-effective heating and mixing solutions, these systems help clients maximize biogas production.

Their portfolio includes several high-profile projects. Their first major project in 2008 was at St-Hyacinthe, where they built three tanks for the initial phase, followed by seven additional digesters and a milk whey tank from 2015–2017. Other notable projects include city sludge tanks for RAEVR (Vallée-du-Richelieu water treatment), installations at Franklin Farms and the University of Vermont, and more recently, tanks for Co-op Carbon in Warwick. These projects highlight the company’s ability to adapt across both municipal, industrial and agricultural applications.
Looking ahead, DGE remain optimistic about the biogas industry, even as growth continues to be gradual. Project development can be slow due to regulatory and financial hurdles, but the company draws inspiration from European markets, particularly Germany, where smaller local RNG production sites allow dairy producers not to rely on quota programs for revenues but by selling electricity or RNG to respective grids. They believe that additional support and incentives for the use of biogas production in municipal wastewater facilities and agricultural applications could help the Canadian market expand and remain competitive internationally.
Dominion & Grimm Environment joined the Canadian Biogas Association to broaden its reach beyond Quebec and connect with opportunities across the country. After years of regional focus, the company views CBA membership to share expertise, expand services nationally, and engage with a broader network of biogas stakeholders.
