Value of Biogas Conference

2022 Value of Biogas West Conference

The 2022 Value of Biogas West Conference hosted on November 1 and 2 was a record-breaking conference for the Canadian Biogas Association. The first conference in the West to top over 330 attendees, registrants were excited and motivated to connect and meet face-to-face. Two full days of programming, plus an additional half day facilities tour option, the conference included informative sessions delivered by industry experts, record-breaking attendance, the largest exhibitor showcase in the history of Value of Biogas West, and extensive in-person networking opportunities.

The Value of Biogas West Conference began with a focus on profitability and finance. The morning sessions covered maximizing opportunities and profitability to improve the bottom-line, and explored the necessary steps, processes, and challenges of securing non-recourse debt financing for biogas projects in North America. In the afternoon we heard from FortisBC on the current condition of renewable gas and what the future holds. Then we went on to focus on contractual negotiations and adequate insurance to ensure a project’s success, as well as the reality of constructing biogas plants. Following the sessions on day one, attendees continued their conversations over drinks and appetizers at the Networking Reception sponsored by Skyline Energy.

Day two of the event began with a transportation panel, discussing the benefits of renewable gases and key considerations necessary when choosing the most appropriate fleet decarbonization pathway. The conference continued with varied sessions including looking at key government policies shaping biogas & RNG markets in North America, and a look at some of the projects being developed, including expansion of a wastewater treatment plant, two landfill gas projects, and high solids co-digestion facility. The conference closed with a session on feedstock, the most important element on which project success is built.
