Value of Biogas Conference

2023 Value of Biogas East Conference

The 2023 Value of Biogas East Conference hosted on April 25 and 26 was a record-breaking conference for the Canadian Biogas Association. Starting with a tour of the City of Toronto’s Dufferin Organics Processing Facility and a Members Only Networking Reception, the conference was highlighted by informative sessions and record-breaking attendance. 400 attendees took advantage of 50 exhibitors and ample networking opportunities over the two days in Toronto.

The 2023 Value of Biogas East Conference began by looking at global and national climate targets and trends, followed by an introduction of a new policy proposal from the Canadian Biogas Association, the Clean Gas Standard, which based on modeling has the potential to help Canada reach its climate goals. Sessions covered municipal considerations for biogas development, project agreements and financing, new technologies, and case studies. A highlight of the day included remarks from Hon. Todd Smith, Minister of Energy for the Government of Ontario.

The second half of the event started with remarks from Member of Parliament Julie Dabrusin, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources and to the Minister or Environment and Climate Change. The conference continued with a discussion on the role of waste and energy in the future of RNG, mechanics of virtual pipelines, a roundtable on the role for biogas in the Sustainable Agriculture Strategy, and options to optimize operation. The event was rounded out with a fireside chat on Budget 2023, considerations for feedstock, and approached to sharing the cost of blending RNG.
