2020 Value of Biogas West Conference

The 2020 Value of Biogas West in Vancouver, B.C. was another great success for Canada’s growing biogas sector. It included a two-day agenda featuring discussion on multiple topics, including government policy, RNG trends, case studies, feedstock optimization, digestate management and more. There was also a biogas/RNG facility tour to Lush and Village Farms.

With the announcement of British Columbia’s CleanBC Plan, release of Canada’s first National Bioeconomy Strategy, and continued work on the federal Clean Fuel Standard and B.C. Low Carbon Fuel Standard, government recognition of biogas/renewable natural gas (RNG) has never been greater. On January 14, 2020, the Canadian Biogas Association, thanks to support from BioDesign, held the Achieving Canada’s Biogas/RNG Potential Workshop in Vancouver. The following report provides a summary of the ideas, barriers and solutions forwarded by participants at the Workshop.

Overall highlights from the 2020 Value of Biogas West Conference include:

  • 200 attendees – our biggest turnouts yet and equal to 2019 Value of Biogas West;
  • Sold out biogas/RNG facility tour;
  • Attendance from across Canada, the United States and Europe, with many international attendees and speakers;
  • 15 exhibitors filled our networking space;
  • High quality networking opportunities; and
  • Overwhelming positive feedback for both the conference and the venue.

The level of participation and energy at 2020 Value of Biogas West is clearly indicative of very exciting times for the biogas/RNG sector in B.C., as policies and programs continue to drive both biogas/RNG production and consumption.
