The 2024 Value of Biogas East Conference – held April 15-17 in downtown Toronto – provided opportunity for three days of learning, extensive networking and rich discussions to more than 425 attendees and a sold-out exhibit area of 60 companies. Here’s a recap of the event highlights.
The tour included a presentation of the site operations that have serviced the city for more than 100 years, a walk-by of the 20 anaerobic digestion facilities, and a unique view of the digestate management practices. The day ended with a Canadian Biogas Association Members Only Happy Hour.
Day 2 presented a full day of content and knowledge sharing that opened with a keynote address by Professor Monica Gattininger, Founding Chair, Positive Energy at the University of Ottawa.
Several sessions throughout the day featured policy dialogue, cross-pollination of learnings with other renewable sectors, a broader view of the bioeconomy, and project success stories. The 2024 Canadian Biogas Industry Awards were presented followed by a full networking reception.
Day 3 finished strong with real-time reaction to the federal 2024 Budget, which included specific mention of biogas & RNG for the first time ever, technical presentations on digestate, and panel discussions on carbon markets and decarbonizing provincial grids.
