The 2024 Value of Biogas West Conference was held October 7-9 on the edge of Stanley Park in Vancouver, BC. The conference included three days of extensive networking, educational sessions, and enriching discussion with 300+ attendees and 45 exhibitor booths.
Day 1 kicked off with two full tour groups heading to Chilliwack, BC to explore Dicklands Biogas. George Dick and his son Jayden led the tour by showing the entire facility from feedstock reception to RNG upgrading and injection. They openly answered attendee questions and shared their vision and motivation for the plant. The day ended with the always bustling Canadian Biogas Association Members Only Happy Hour.
The plenary sessions on Day 2 hosted a full day of content and knowledge sharing that opened with the CBA Director’s Fireside Chat. The day showcased real-world projects, plus feedstock sourcing, pre-treatment and start-up. Attendees learned about B.C.’s regulatory landscape, alternative renewable gas options and carbon dioxide liquification. Remarks were heard from the presenting sponsor and exhibitors. Closing off the robust day delegates were educated about Denmark’s experience and enjoyed networking at the evening reception.
Day 3 finished strong with panel discussions on carbon intensity calculations and changes, and how economic factors, costly mistaking and technical expertise lead to successful projects. The conference finished with an interactive quiz game, where teams of delegates tested their biogas & RNG knowledge, and were awarded prizes and the coveted winner’s title.
